Update - December 2011
The
Elsyia Consortium - Health through Development
News of our initiative to open
an Anthroposophic Therapeutic Centre in Stourbridge.
The background to this
initiative
A group of people fought hard
to save Park Attwood. After the building was sold that group
straight away transformed into a group to continue the work,
and we named ourselves the Elysia Consortium for Social and
Therapeutic Renewal. In our view we are a Park Attwood Phoenix
with a key goal of opening a new Centre.
The Elysia Consortium
for Social and Therapeutic Renewal
The Elysia Consortium is a
group of professional therapists and supporting team, working
towards the health of the whole human being, body, soul and
spirit. The Consortium extends to include those in other areas
in a mutually supportive way, through professional activity
and anthroposophic practice.
Tom
Ravetz, Sebastian Parsons and Melanie Taylor led a foundation
process for the Elysia Consortium for Social and Therapeutic
Renewal, which culminated in a founding meeting on the 21st
December 2010. We are forming a Limited Liability Partnership,
known as a LLP, as the legal entity for our work.
We
are developing links with practitioners in other areas too
who wish to connect to what we consider to be the impulse
of the Medical Section of the School of Spiritual Science.
We
envisage that other therapists working out of this ethos can
become Elysia Consortium partners with their own independently
run Centres, linked through the Commons thereby sharing cultural,
economic and legal expertise for development and growth.
Our
close connections with Emerson College and John Lees in particular,
is a first example of a path of potential collaborative energy
vivifying such common work for health and education within
the cultural life of an organisational framework.
The
Elysia Connsortium is part of an umbrella organisation called
the Elysia Commons. This Elysia Commons supports other organisations
in their independent activities through the ethos of 'meaningful
work', and many of these independent organisations are also
inspired by the insights of Rudolf Steiner.
What we are working on
at present
Presently
we are in active collaborative planning with the manager of
Camphill Houses Stourbridge, Jim Keown. The plan is to upgrade
and convert for our use one of their houses that has been
vacant for some time.
Currently
we are awaiting planning permission for change of use from
residential to therapeutic day services. We have been told
that this should come through before Christmas. We are hopeful
that there will be no hitch here but are being cautious in
our optimism after our previous experiences in getting this
project off the ground. If all goes according to plan, we
will be leasing the building on a 5-year lease with break
clauses at one and three years.
What we are hoping to
bring about here in Stourbridge
In
the Centre we will be offering a range of anthroposophical
therapies including massage, anthroposophic nursing, psychotherapeutic
and biographical counselling, eurythmy and art and the services
of an anthroposophic doctor. This will be a therapist led
model with the anthroposophical doctor visiting for regular
clinics. Local friends will offer Bed and Breakfast accommodation
/ meals for those who wish to travel to the Centre for overnight
stays or a more extended period of therapy.
The
Centre will offer workshops, talks and other activities for
the local community on health and education - in essence inviting
the public to learn more about a Salutongenic approach to
health care and wellbeing. We will also invite membership
that provides a number of benefits. For instance it will allow
a therapeutic circle to operate and members will get a discount
on all treatments. We will weave a continuity of experience
that offers its members a path of development from illness
to health through self discovery, development and learning.
We
will let you know more details about the Stourbridge Elysia
Therapeutic Centre as soon as we have them, and you can let
us know your details and we will keep you informed, or check
out our website regularly.
